Ahmadiyas blame Jamaat for killing of their Imam


The leaders of Ahmadiya Muslim Jamaat (AMJ) yesterday alleged that the extremist members of Jamaat-e-Islami killed their leader Md Shah Alam, president of AMJ, Raghunathpurbag upazila in Jessore on Friday last.

“Maulana Aminur Rahman, leader of Jamaat-e-Islami of Raghunathpurbag upazila and also an Imam of a mosque and his accomplices killed Shah Alam, Imam of an Ahmadiya mosque,” the Ahmadiya leaders claimed in a press briefing held at the head office of AMJ at Bakshibazar in the city.

Nayeeb National Amir of AMJ Professor Mir Mobassher Ali and General Secretary of AMJ A K Rezaul Karim spoke at the briefing.

Mir Mobassher Ali alleged that a group of people led by local Jamaat leaders attacked their community and killed Shah Alam.

He also said that they were Muslims and followers of Hazrat Muhammad (SM) but unfortunately the vested quarters are attacking their men and damaging their property causing sufferings to their community.

Protesting the incident he demanded the speedy trial of the criminals responsible for the killing of their leader in Jessore and terrorist activities against the Ahmadiya community.

Ahmadiya Muslim Jamaat Secretary AK Rezaul Karim said that the Government has failed to control the terrorist activities of the so-called Islami parties.

There were 14 families of Ahmadiya community in Jhikargachha who were held hostage by the extremist members of the Jamaat-e-Islami.

It may be mentioned that there are about one-lakh members of Ahmadiya community a living in Bangladesh.

In 1999 an Ahmadiya mosque was attacked in Khulna leaving seven people dead and 28 injured. In the same year another mosque at Daulatpur in Kushtia came under bomb attack causing several injuries.

Besides, in 1998 three mosques at Rangotia village in Sherpur, Gaibandha and Mongla in Khulna were also attacked. In 1992 three mosques at Khulna, Dhaka and Rajshahi were attacked.
