The Media

The vernacular print media has played an ugly role in the anti-Ahmadiyya movement. Some Urdu newspapers publish anti-Ahmadi news almost daily. On occasions they may carry three, even four, such news items, mostly statements of mullas. These statements are generally void of truth; they misquote the facts, use slander, provoke the reader and exhort the public to undertake violence, even murder. Most newspapers issue annual special editions that contain only anti-Ahmadiyya propaganda.

A late entrant to this field is the electronic media. Television channels hold discussion programs to which rabid mullas are invited and the panel, including the anchor person use words like ‘Jihad’, ‘blood’ and ‘duty to kill’ with reference to Ahmadis.
